The official emblem of the Beijing 2008 Paralympics Olympic
Games is expected to be unveiled during closing ceremonies of
the Beijing Second Olympic Culture Festival scheduled for June
23-July 13 at the Millennium Monument in the capital city.
The Beijing Second Olympic Culture Festival was organized by
China's Ministry of Culture and was jointly sponsored by the
ministry, the State Administration of Radio, Film and
Television, the General Administration of Sport, The People's
Government of Beijing Municipality and the Beijing Organizing
Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad (BOCOG). Events
will take place at various venues in the city.
The festival recognizes the Olympics is more than a mere
sporting event. It also serves as a focal point for
communication among the people of the world. The First Olympic
Culture Festival was held in Beijing in September 2003, albeit
two months later than planned, because of the SARS
outbreak.
BOCOG Vice-President Jiang Xiaoyu said, "From the year of
2000, the Paralympics should be held in the host city of that
year's Olympic Games, and these two Games must use the same
gymnasiums and facilities."
The Beijing 2008 Paralympics are scheduled to begin as soon
as the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games end. And the launching of the
emblem of Beijing 2008 Paralympics at the closing ceremony of
the festival will be a highlight of this year's Olympic Culture
Festival. The closing ceremony also marks the third anniversary
of Beijing's successful bid for the 2008 Olympic Games.
