The Beijing 2008 Olympic Games got off to a spectacular start with a stunning Opening Ceremony at the Bird's Nest stadium.
The ceremony included a unique mixture of new technology and performance on a massive scale.
London 2012 Organising Committee Chief Executive Paul Deighton attended the event and commented:
'Everyone expected an Opening Ceremony of epic proportion and China did not disappoint, including a most spectacular finale.
'We
now look forward to 16 days of sport, and, for us, 16 days of learning
as we prepare for the the next Summer Games in London.
